Haute Magazine

In 2019, I helped launch Haute Magazine, the premier bi-annual fashion, arts, and culture publication at the University of Southern California. I served as the Visual Design Director for the first three issues and then Creative Director for the next two issues, totaling over 2,500 spreads (whew!). To garner sponsorships, I curated a collection of my favorite design spreads into a portfolio that caught the attention of Tastemade, Coty Beauty, Art Hearts Fashion, Tumblr, and more. Hopefully, they will catch your attention, too. Keep scrolling to see the full magazines I’ve worked on.

Out of Context Fall 2019

In “Out of Context,” we explore the struggle to find belonging and uncover the growth that emerges in accepting one’s identity. From strange, uncanny scenes to the discomfort of finding one’s place in the world, this issue positions the comfortable with the uncomfortable, giving rise to something beautiful.

ROLE Visual Design Director – Designed most spreads from scratch and put all 350+ pages of them together into one, cohesive magazine.

Future Shock Spring 2020

Welcome to the future. “Future Shock” immerses readers in a myriad of futuristic visions of technological advancement, artistic progression, and societal change. At a whopping 426 pages and featuring our biggest names yet (Billie Eilish, FKA Twigs, Grimes, Rihanna, The Weeknd, and more), this issue will be a treasured artifact from a unique point in our global culture.

ROLE Visual Design Director – Oversaw a team of 20 designers, edited their spreads, made several from scratch, and worked on the styling of our photoshoot sponsored by Vans.

Remember This Fall 2020

In “Remember This,” we attempt to chronicle the year’s turbulent times. From the Black Lives Matter movement to the Hong Kong Protests, the politics of mask-wearing during the COVID-19 pandemic to the ongoing fight to bring visibility to Black queer communities, this issue tackles subjects at the forefront of social discourse throughout this life-changing year.

ROLE Visual Design Director – Oversaw a team of 20 designers, edited their spreads, made several from scratch, and advised our very first cover shoot.

Dream State Spring 2021

2020 was a year colored by grief, outrage, uncertainty, and a devastating amount of loss. Amidst these tribulations, we searched for relief from the never-ending news cycle and painful isolation enforced upon us by government COVID-19 policies. Some of us found solace in our imaginations, dreaming of realities far removed from our current lives. “Dream State” is the amalgamation of these dreams: an ephemeral world meant to soothe the bruises of the present while remaining critical of the events that led us here, an opportunity to escape for a moment.

ROLE Creative Director – Oversaw our Photography, Visual Design, and Marketing teams and all of our internal and external functions. Directed our cover shoot and made final edits to spreads.

On the Edge Fall 2021

Welcome to “On the Edge,” our experimental, alternative issue inspired by the DIY ‘zine culture of the ’90s. Emerging from our previous “Dream State,” this issue plunges into a dark, grungy, and heavily-stylized world where both current USC students and seasoned professionals pay homage to the punk subcultures made possible by rock musicians and creative artists alike.

ROLE Creative Director – Oversaw our Photography, Writing, Visual Design, and Marketing teams and all of our internal and external functions. Directed our cover shoot and made final edits to spreads. Hosted a concert with four USC music artists and helped organize a launch party fashion show.

Spreads designed in Adobe InDesign. Used this portfolio to capture the attention of our 50+ professional photographers, collaborators (studios, stylists, cover stars, etc.), and sponsors.
